[E100 Alert] In Memoriam – Bryan Elliott Davis

Kaieteur Falls is the name of a spectacular waterfall in the interior of Guyana, South America. For us it is a metaphor for ageless, timeless, continuous FLOW. We believe the time has come for organizations to do a superior job of harnessing the ongoing fast-changing flow of knowledge, ideas, intellectual capital, and intangible assets.

"Mastering the e-knowledge market will become a key skill for future; and knowledge exchanges will regulate the ebb and the flow of knowledge."

Dear E100:

On Tuesday, May 26th, 2015, we lost a genuine pioneer in Knowledge Management – Bryan Elliott Davis, founder of the Kaieteur Institute. Precious few have carried the agenda in such good conscience and action. He stood heads above us all – physically and intellectually. Bryan had a vision that led us all forward. Simultaneously, he was the foundation for much of our thinking and plans – understanding the trends and memes better than the rest of us.

Bryan set a standard difficult to emulate. His taxonomies were peerless as was his research into novel fields, such as Knowledge Markets, Performance Metrics and Innovation Zones. In short, he was a genius among us; but it is his generosity and sense of perspective for which he will be most remembered. He made the complex simple…understandable; and more important, actionable.

In the words of his trusted advisor E100 Joel Alleyne [Canada]:
We lost a giant thinker and contributor to the Entovation Network this week -- Bryan Elliot Davis. Bryan influenced the thinking of many he talked to. He had a point of view in most conversations. He was a fountain of ideas. And he stayed well ahead of most people, using the skills and lenses he acquired in his doctoral studies in Philosophy. Bryan will be missed; especially those of us who could reach out to him with a question or for his input into an idea and get a prompt response. His work and ideas will live on amongst us.

Bryan hosted the 1st E100 Practicum in Toronto, Canada, in the late 90’s – the same time he was on the team for Collaborative Innovation for the Knowledge Economy. Already, he had spent years scoping the potential of e-knowledge markets. He was one of the first to be featured on our Global Knowledge Leadership Map and served as the ENTOVATION Fellow for Innovation Intelligence for decades. He made integral contributions to Roundtables in Finland, Mexico, New York, Oman and Boston. Those in attendance know precisely what I mean.

It was his seminal work on Knowledge Innovation Zones – www.inthekzone.com - where I witnessed his remarkable talent firsthand. We had the opportunity to envision the new international knowledge city – EN2Polis, co-author several articles, outline the Triple Knowledge Lens and evolve the P7 methodology – from Purpose to Prosperity.

The family has asked us to share the following:
It is with great sadness that we share the news of our loss of Bryan Davis. He was a wonderful father, husband and intellect and will be very missed by many. We can all take comfort from the knowledge that he passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.

A service in his honour will be held at Jerrett Funeral Homes, 660 Kennedy Road, Toronto, Ont. M1K 2B5 (416 266 8475) www.jerrettfuneralhome.com --- this Saturday May 30th at 2pm, preceded by a brief visitation which will be held from 1-2 pm. Reception to follow.

We would like to thank you all for remembering him as the joyful, thoughtful and caring person he was.

For those that may wish to do so, in lieu of flowers we would like to suggest instead that a donation be made to the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital.

The symbol Bryan selected for his Institute was that of a waterfall. Indeed, the impact of his contribution to the Knowledge profession has been both beautiful and powerful with lasting effects for generations. Bryan had a depth of compassion and enviable strength on so many levels. It has been such a privilege – an honor, actually - to know him…as a colleague, a partner and a treasured friend.

Always in your Network,

Debra
